Spring Thaw & Draw - Nature Journaling for Everyone! (May 31: Bugs, and insects too) - FULL
THIS CLASS IS FULL - email Mary at firstname.lastname@example.org to get on the waitlist.
Winter is thawing into Spring and it's a perfect time to get outside in nature and draw.
Please join us (Mary Kiesau & Perri Howard) for "Spring Thaw & Draw: Nature Journaling for Everyone!" This series of spring classes will follow our usual format, with a natural history lesson in the field led by Mary Kiesau, followed by drawing practice in the studio led by Perri Howard. If the weather is fine, we may stay out and sketch in the field. We’ll be following a fun “B” theme for these classes: Buds, Birds, Blossoms, and Bugs. These classes are designed for everyone: the absolute beginner to learn tips and tricks to get started with drawing and nature journaling, to more experienced students who want focused instruction and drawing practice.
Join us for individual classes or all four in the series! Classes are $65 each or $240 for the 4-class series (save $20!). To register for the whole series, click here.
The themed classes will meet on Friday afternoons, each from 12:30pm-5:00pm.
APRIL 19: Buds (and shoots and leaves and maybe even some trees)
MAY 03: Birds - such wonderful, color spring birds!
MAY 17: Blossoms - spring wildflowers galore
MAY 31: Bugs (beetles, butterflies, bees and just about any insect or bug you can think of) - SCROLL DOWN TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS
Space is limited to 12 people per class, and registration is required. Register here or by contacting Mary Kiesau at 509-551-6714, email@example.com or Perri Howard, 509-557-2299, firstname.lastname@example.org. Contact Perri if you have any questions about the classes.
ALSO, new this year, we are offering two “Field Day” classes geared towards those who would enjoy an immersive experience hiking and drawing in nature. If you have taken a class with us before or have done some drawing on your own, the Field Day classes will be a perfect fit for you. These longer classes will combine a more in-depth natural history excursion with more detailed field-based drawing. They are geared towards those of you who are fairly comfortable with drawing tools through either previous classes or creative practice on your own. They are April 27 (The Shrub Steppe in Bloom – Balsamroot and Rolling Foothills) and May 18 (Riparian Rendezvous - Woodlands, Rivers, and Majestic Mountains). See details for both here.
Our classes are small so that we can work with each of you individually throughout the class time, and tailor teaching to your specific needs. Because of that, people who consider themselves true beginners (“I’ve never drawn before!”) as well as people who have been drawing or painting for years - and everyone in between - all have a fun and worthwhile experience in these classes. The classes are designed for ages 16 and up. If you would like to bring a youngster under the age of 16, please call/email Perri to explore the possibilities.
Each class will include a field experience, natural history lesson, and drawing skills instruction. We start with a short session outdoors in the field, observing, walking, and getting to know our surroundings with a naturalist lesson by Mary. We'll then transition to Perri’s studio at TwispWorks for three or so hours of drawing lessons and practice, including fundamental drawing tips and lessons like creating depth and perspective, giving your shapes form, texture and expression, drawing "landscapitos," and working with color. If the weather is really great, we may draw outside in the field.
All materials, including pens, pencils, paper, and teaching tools, will be included, but feel free to bring your own materials if you’d like. More details will be sent before each class.
